He gave the right answer to an impossible question.
If there’s one question that most human beings struggle to answer, it’s what happens when we die. It’s one of the most central questions of human existence, along with the meaning of life.
The actor encountered the question during an appearance on The Late Show. Host Stephen Colbert casually asked Keanu: “What do you think happens when we die, Keanu Reeves?”
Many people know Keanu Reeves for a variety of roles, most notably as his portrayal of the hitman, John Wick. Reeves first began his career in Hollywood portraying characters whom few would describe as profound. However, as the years have passed by, he has earned a reputation as a rather down-to-earth, deep and thoughtful person who defies the stereotypes that made him famous. Something that only reinforces this new theory of Reeves is his latest appearance on Stephen Colbert’s talk show.
Keanu Reeves was simply making the rounds with late night talk shows, while he was promoting the opening of his latest action sequel – John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum.
However, Reeves decided to drop by Stephen Colbert’s show to discuss his career and the filming of the blockbuster action film, as well as the plot of the upcoming new Bill & Ted sequel.
The ensuing discussions were both shocking and extremely reflective but only made the audience and viewers at home love Reeves even more than they did before. Check out the interview below.
Of course, Reeves was there to discuss his acting career and films. However, while chatting about the long-awaited sci-fi comedy sequel, where the world faces its demise unless Bill S. Preston (Alex Winter) and “Ted” Logan can write one more Wyld Stallyns song, the conversation takes a sudden and rather unexpected turn toward philosophy and the fleeting nature of mortality. The peculiar, yet thoughtful discussion takes place around the nine-minute mark of the video.
“What do you think happens when we die, Keanu Reeves?” The Late Show host asked. And somehow, Keanu managed to come back with a smart, honest reply.
It’s not often that you see Stephen Colbert at a loss for words, but he was speechless after Keanu’s reply. A full 10 seconds passed before he said anything at all.
